#5 Oral Presentation

First and foremost,I have to apologise for this really late entry given that I have just finished a really grueling week of 6 CAs! But please do comment on the entry ok :)

I think preparing for this OP has really made me learn alot of useful skills. My usual method of presentation is really just to go through the slides, formulate the sentences in my mind, rehearse a couple of times using flashcards and do the final presentation. I've always stuck to this method and while it has worked in the past, I felt it could not have worked for this OP because we were not given the choice of holding flashcards and this really worried me because I really depend alot on flashcards.

Hence, before the mock OP in class I came up with a script to 'guide' my flow of thought but alas, the environmental noise proved to be distractive and I was really distracted and unable to deliver the information as well as I would have wanted to. I would say the mock OP was a good opportunity for me to understand what needed to be corrected to ensure a good delivery during the actual OP.

During the actual OP, I was really nervous. Given the amount of CAs I had that week, I was really stressed out but I'm thankful for the help and understanding that my teammates have given to me. (Thank you Y.A.P.I! :D) Practice really makes perfect because with practice comes confidence as well and this is one aspect that I learnt alot from during the preparation of this OP. This was what really helped me during the actual presentation where everything just came to me smoothly plus I really wanted our OP to be delivered well given the amount of time and effort our team had put in. Of course, I was also repeating to myself in my mind 'Smile more, girl!' as Brad would have said.

All in all,I really enjoyed this OP and everything that I have learnt through this experience and thank you once again Y.A.P.I! :D

Hey girl! I understand what it's like to have such a tiring week! I had tons of CAs/presentations/papers etc that week as well, on top of a competition on Sunday.

I think you did really well in the actual presentation! By the way, I've always felt that you have such a pleasant voice, and that really makes your presentation wonderful to listen to! You portrayed great confidence during your presentation, and it's so hard to pick out any weaknesses that day! If I really had to point out something, the only thing I could say was perhaps your pace was very slightly fast at some point in time during the presentation? Besides that, I think you did a wonderful job!

Thank you for the comments Mabel :) Truthfully, I really dislike my voice alot because I find it too high pitched but thanks for the compliment :D Anyway, I will work on my pace in future presentation. Nerves were really the cause of them and hopefully I can learn to pace myself well in future.

Paulaaa!!! :)) been waiting for you to post up your blogpost! :) I agree with Mabel. Personally, I felt that your voice was beautiful! :) really love hearing it! You had a nice tone plus you spoke really fleuntly! :) one thing though, I thought you used the word 'Ok' a little too much when transiting from one point to the other. It could possibly be due to your nerves so you can improve on it!

Thanks so much for the wonderful presentation! You really were fab! ;))

Jac :D Sorry, I was very tired yesterday so I came home and knocked out immediately. Thank you for your compliment :) I really wasn't aware that I used too much 'Ok' during the presentation haha! I will work on it. Thank you :)

I have nothing in mind during your presentation other than, “Wow!” I thought that the rehearsal that we did right before the actual presentation was already good but your actual performance really topped the scale. My jaw almost dropped when you start your portion and I was amazed even though I have kind of witnessed your progression of improvement. Your excellent performance greatly contributed to my overall energy level that I have for my final portion. It was truly encouraging to be presenting after you.

Your voice is really beautiful and your stance during the presentation was really professional. The tone, voice volume, clarity, posture and even eye contact were superb. I would even go as far to say that your professionalism level was on par with the full time, on job presenters that I had worked with. Now I am a bit jealous of your natural good voice, haha.

The only weakness that is obvious to me is that you missed some slides. However, I think it is only obvious to the team so the audience would not have noticed. In future presentation, having actual dry runs with the slides and in the actual ground (if possible) will eliminate such glitch.

I believe as you have more experience in presentation without cue-cards, you can soar on the stage of presentation and communication.

Hey Paula!

Yu Tian's right, "Wow" is the right word. You were brilliant. So clear, concise, easy to follow, pleasant and very professional. Your tone was perfect. You made your presentation so much better. I think presenting just comes to you naturally.
At the start you seemed a little unsure of what you were saying but after 2-3 slides you were brilliant. Great job!

Yu Tian: Thanks Yu Tian for the help you and Adeline have given me during the prep for the OP. Really appreciate it :) I think in future it would be good to practice together with the slides as you have mentioned because I was too nervous that I forgot to click the slides (But of cos it didn't show because I just 'smoked' my way through it haha!) Nevertheless, thank you for the comments!

Hey Paula!

Sorry I don't have much to comment about you. I looked at my piece of paper containing my feedback for you, only to find the word 'perfect" in it. In my opinion, your presentation style was probably the best in class. Very smooth, very professional, very calm and yup, very well done. Haha. Superb work done. Thank you so much for your very enjoyable presentation! =)

Hey Paula,

Wow, 6 CAs in one week must have been really demanding for you but I must say that it did not affect your presentation at all. You presented calmly and confidently. You managed to deliver a persuasive argument. However, it would be good if you had spoken more naturally as it was clear that during some parts you had memorized what you planned to say. Overall, I am really impressed by how much you have grown as a professional communicator.

Cheers!

Edwin: Thank you Edwin for your compliments haha! I wouldn't say I was perfect because there are areas that I felt could have been improved on during the presentation. But nevertheless, thank you for being such an attentive audience :)

Eunice: Hi Eunice! I did try my best to conceal that I had memorised my parts hahaha but I'm surprised you could still actually find out. I will work hard in making my future presentations a better one than the OP and once again, thank you for your encouragement :)

Hello Paula! As I was watching the video, you spoke so well! You speak like newsbroadcaster!!! When I worked together with you for the peer teaching, I find your voice very pleasant. Can still remember I told you at YT's house that your voice is very sweet and pleasant, 听了很爽 (very happy to hear).

Treat yourself with good food and goodies after this! You have done yourself proud as you managed to overcome your difficulties and performed well!

Try different approaches to presenting. :D

Very happy to know you and working together with you!

Hello Adeline! Thanks for your compliments :) I still dislike hearing myself speak because my voice is too high-pitched. That's why I don't dare to watch the OP video as well haha! Anyway,it was great working with you throughout the semester and hope to see you around in school :D
